About us
巨嘴鳥 Playgroup 位於天母，是一個為 3 至 6 歲孩子打造的溫馨混齡空間。在這裡孩子們可以在家以外的環境中交朋友、探索世界、開心學習。我們提供週 3 至 5 天的半日課程，靈活彈性，適合不同家庭需求。
我們是雙語共學空間，鼓勵孩子使用自己最自在的語言交流，無論是中文、英文，或其他母語，都非常歡迎！
Conveniently located in Tianmu, the Toucan’s Playgroup is a multiage British nursery for children aged from three to six to play, learn, and make friends away from the home. Our day has two sessions: mornings from 8:30 to 12 noon and afternoons from 12:30 to 4pm, and learners can join from 3 half-days a week. We are a dual-language space, and welcome all home languages.

在巨嘴鳥，孩子們不按年齡分班，也沒有進度壓力。我們相信，混齡共學能促進語言能力的發展、同理心的建立，以及自信心的培養。年紀小的孩子可以從大孩子身上學習，大孩子也能從照顧別人的過程中成長。
Our learners are not divided into single age groups and are free to learn at their own pace. Multi-age spaces in pre-school have been shown to improve young learners' literacy outcomes as well as building confidence and self-esteem!

Why Dual-Language?
我們的團隊由中文與英文為母語的老師組成，課堂中沒有語言的硬性分界，也沒有「只能說英文／中文」的時段。我們讓語言成為自然溝通與學習的媒介。
這樣的環境不僅讓雙語孩子可以同時精進兩種語言，也讓以其他語言為母語的孩子，有機會逐步熟悉三種語言。在語文學習方面，我們也會引導孩子接觸英文音標與中文注音，建立閱讀與書寫的基礎。
The playgroup is a bilingual space where our staff speak Mandarin or English as a first language. Dual-language means we don't divide our time or space by language, but use language fluidly. We welcome all home languages with the goal of becoming bilingual (or multilingual!) over time. We introduce our learners to reading and writing with English phonics and Zhuyin, in a literacy rich environment.

課堂中，我們建立以學生為中心的學習環境，透過提問與主題探索，讓孩子從興趣出發，自發地學習與思考。

Our learning is founded on Scotland's national curriculum, Curriculum for Excellence. This fabulous framework suits our setting perfectly as it is both multi-age, and supports dual language learners.

這個名字來自創辦人（我）在蘇格蘭的童年回憶。當年我的媽媽在產假期間，創辦了一個為學齡前兒童設計的音樂課程，名稱就叫「巨嘴鳥」，透過音樂幫助孩子學習語言。
那時候蘇格蘭還沒有太多類似的兒童團體，這個課程迅速受到歡迎，陸續在當地開設了多個據點。直到長大後，我還常常遇到曾參加過「巨嘴鳥」課程的朋友。
這段回憶讓我們決定，將這個具有溫度與教育意義的名字帶來台灣，成為我們英語教室的名字。
Back in the 90s in the north of Scotland, our wee mum started the Toucan's Music Group: a weekly group where pre-school children could play music, sing, and develop their language skills. The original logo was drawn by my dad, inspired by a favourite mug. Of course they've been inundated with toucans for every birthday, Christmas and souvenir ever since - we are the newest addition in a long line of toucans!
